Kitchen Awesome
I have been in need of a ladle. I don't know if I will use this one or hang it on a wall though, it's so pretty!
And you all know I love corelle. And salt shakers.
The tea ball is a present for my 2nd job. We have a lot of little things that need to be heat sanitized. These are the perfect size and although we already have 2, we are in need of a second one. It will make life easier.

Vintage, taken home and left behind
I love this purse. It actually holds a surprising amount of stuff. I threw a book, a magazine a small notebook and two makeup bags in it yesterday. And it all fit. It started to look overstuffed when I added a bagel and my sunglasses case... but oh well. If there was only a way to attach a longer handle, I might just use it all the time.
And man oh man did I have a hard time leaving this set behind.
But I have no need of more dishes.
Even if is had almost everything. Like the butter dish, sugar bowl and creamer...all eight plates... but only 4 mugs.
And I adore Old Town Blue!

Using thrift
You may recognize the Corelle plate from here. I figured I'd show you some of what I do with my thrift-finds.
They get used!
My husband went to a Bachelor Party last night. He had a good time, but he doesn't recover as fast as he used to. So I made him breakfast in bed. Then I made him go back to sleep. I'll wake him when it's time for dinner.
I found the tray some months ago. I use it mostly for holding craft supplies when I try to craft on the couch. (Which is always a bad idea)
The glass is something I made! Or at least re-purposed. It used to be a wine bottle. Yeah, I'm into that too. That's what all those candlesticks have been for lately.
It is also our sortof anniversary. We had our first date on April 1st. So he deserved breakfast for that too.
Happy April Fools Day everyone!

Cream and Sugar anyone?
I love Corelle as you know. Butterfly Gold in specific. I have a sugar bowl in spring garden green already, but I couldn't break up this set. I never see the oil and vinegar bottles! As my parent's have an oil and vinegar shop now, I thought they would be perfect for displaying behind the register. Although, I may just keep these for myself.

I love glass! You can do so much with it. Press it in to shapes, blow it and make it hollow, spin it, fuse it, carve it...and make really cool bowls with it.
Yes, I have a problem. I know. One of many. But this bowl is awesome. And the hilarity is that it matches my counters perfectly.
It actually is blue. One of those bowls with such a delicate tint. It probably isn't high quality or anything because the seams where it was all pressed together are so prominent. But I think it's pretty.

Blue day
So this week has been filled mostly with rain. Hurricanes, tropical storms, and just general rain. Our basement still has some water in it, but we don't keep anything down there anyway. So it has been very blue on the whole.
Lucky for me I knew how to beat the blues by visiting a couple stores and spending less than ten dollars today. Mister Holmes is in my bookcase right now looking over all my Sherlock books. I seriously have around 10 different copies and editions. Although, it may be more than that. I haven't ever gathered them all into one place. And aren't those mini bottles beautiful? If all the awesome glass I found was this size, my husband would be so much happier.
Old Town Blue! Ah, Old Town Blue. I love the Corelle platters. I have a Butterfly Gold one already of course. But I do love them. The little chickens are just so cute. I have a corner cabinet that just needs them.
I know the cabinet doesn't really need them. But they're pretty. And that makes the cabinet need them.

Big Red Head
Why yes. That is a big red head.
I'm not sure if I should have bought this, but I could not think of a good reason. What should I have told my husband when he asked why I needed a big red head? I can't even think of where it would go. I think I like it so much because I really miss the blue glass Pier One head I stupidly let my mother sell at a yard sale when I was 16. I remember that it looked really awesome with a hat stuck on it. But 15bucks is a bit much for a head. Even if it is red.

Santos Angel
So I've kinda been all over the place lately. Lots of things have happened in only a week! I'll keep the updates going as this week rolls along rather than blasting you with an enormous post.
So 4 Xanth novels a couple other misc books and wait, what's that? A biography of Chang and Eng the original Siamese twins? Score! Did you know that someone wrote that? Isn't it a great idea? And remember the drag queen from 'Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil'? She's real, that really was her and she wrote an autobiography. And let me tell you, she is SASSY!
I was only able to go thrifting once this past week, but it was an amazing trip. I found a great supply of good books. I love the Xanth novels. They are the perfect antidote for actual news. Because news is usually bad. And Xanth is always good, and entertaining.
I also picked up some really cute necklaces. I had to post because the one in the middle is the coolest ever! It's missing it's stopper, but its a pretty nice little perfume vial.
I wanted a cool new butter dish. The basic glass is just so boring. So I jumped at the chance at this Snowflake Blue pyrex one. Chandelier dangles are just the best and good vintage marbles are a decorating must have. All the new marbles I find are all boring, single color types. I find very many piggy banks, but most are missing the bottom plugs. This one was intact and all silver. Perfect for a baby gift I need.
And what can I say about the angel. Oh the angel. The Santos Angel. The Willow House Santos Angel that I got for $7dollars. The one on the right. The one on the left I bought for $30 at a Willow House party. Now I have a matching set. Yay!

Holding out for something better
Today I didn't buy anything.
Except a shirt. Which I accidentally shrunk in the wash just now.
But aside from that, I didn't buy anything.
I wanted to. But I held out for something better.
I saw lots of corelle!
2 morning blue d handle mugs, 4 old town blue hook cups. 1 butterfly gold juice glass.
There were also 3 dof and 1 highball glas snap tumblers in black that I didn't get a picture of. But I found a picture of the same ones online. They are very cool looking, but the plastic part feels flimsy. I would be uncomfortable putting them in the microwave.
But I didn't buy anything. I was strong. My hook cup collection will remain as it is. I love old town blue, but I do already have 7 cups of it. (If it had been a pattern I didn't have, this would be a different post)

Making up for lost sales
A few weeks ago, I was sick. I mean really sick. I didn't move for about 4 days. It happened to be over a weekend, which is always worse. But even worse than that, I had been looking forward to that weekend for a month. It was the weekend of Church Rummage Sales.
I ended up with another ashtray for my friend, a sun-catcher, and a set of green jars (one side with a sunflower and the other side with a daisy) from one sale. I got some costume jewelry from some one else. I found those cute jars, one says Pint, the other says Full 1/2 Pint from a guy who had to thin his collection of jars because he and his wife were downsizing their home. The same sale also had the chicken basket. The chicken is sitting on top of my kitchen cabinets, right next to the larger one I found a couple months ago.
Oh sadness! There were 3 that weekend and I missed them all. I wasn't mad about missing 3 days of work, I wasn't mad about being able to eat only crackers for a week. I was mad I missed the rummage sales.
So imagine how pumped I was to see a sign for a rummage sale this past weekend! I saw the sign on Thursday and started planning. 'Cause, if it opened at 8am and has only limited parking...I'd better get there early.... right? A sale that was $5 a BAG should be quite an event, right?
Not so much. I had lots of stuff to do that Saturday. A car to take to a service center, groceries to get... I got there at 11am. I was worried that all the good stuff might be gone. If there ever was any good stuff, it must have been gone by 8:30. There were two rooms filled with baby toys and board games and kinda dirty clothes. It was a bust.
I got the mini chair for my mother. She has this whole collection hanging on a wall in the tv room. I got the fat green ashtray for my friend who is looking for ashtrays that will fit a cigar.
I was looking forward to an hour or so pawing through crazy things piled together in a dingy church basement. After such disapointment, I drove home. And hit every yard sale along the way. I got to around 8 of them.

My favorite thing is actually the little brown enamelware spoon. I've been taking it to work with me to eat my Overnight Oats with. It cleans up really well with our limited dish-washing facilities.
Oh, and the Pyrex dish? I know I said that they are silly. I know I said I didn't like them. I know that they are too big to store in any convenient way. But man oh man, I am a sucker for Butterfly Gold.

Good god. MORE Corelle?!

So my husband went to get a plate the other day and shouted, "What is all this?!"
All this is my treasure trove of Corelle.
I read on blog after blog about people's obsession with the patterned Pyrex. But I prefer the dishware, instead of the compatibles. Pyrex takes up too much room! And the prices that people seem to be willing to pay? Sheesh! I passed over 2 nice looking dishes today that some of these bloggers would pant over. They didn't have their lids, but at a price of only 1.97 each, I don't think the collectors would complain. I've been tempted to buy them and others like them and resell them online for an enormous profit.
I have 5 Butterfly Gold dinner plates and 1 dessert plates. 4 dessert plates in Peach Garland. 7 hook cups and saucers in Butterfly Gold. 7 hook cups in Spring Garden Green. Also, a large serving bowl in that pattern. And 3 hook cups in Old Town Blue. Oh, and 1 hook cup in Winter Frost White.
The dishware is much easier to stack and store and my husband is not really a fan of the casserole, so I can't really use the Pyrex very much. I know that this is not really cause to have 18 hook cups.....but.....
I acknowledge I have a hook-cup-addiction.

Butterfly Gold
So I am really excited about my recent finds! Stainless necklaces, a green glass decanter, 2 buddahs, a larger cute cauldron.

I even found more of these awesome Corelle hook cups and plates. I love the way they fit on the hand. I have some in the Old Town pattern, but the ones I found this week are the same pattern at the dishes my grandparents had when I was growing up. Actually, I think my grandfather still uses them. Called Butterfly Gold.
My favorite thing is something I won't even use. When I make mixed drinks, I am not one to use a jigger, but I could not pass this up! Coolest jigger I've ever seen. If I could find the rest of this set, I would be too happy.

I also bought a bench. It's just too big to go in the photo. I'll post pictures of it once it's done being refinished. yay!
