Didn't buy....

I am trying to thrift better! I know that that maybe should mean stop going? Buuuuuut that is not happening. So I guess I take pictures and you can all tell me I was an idiot for leaving bit behind.

First up is this cute planter. I have no idea what she is really supposed to be. I am thinking I should always pick up stuff with faces....at least ceramics. But the weird grapes print thing had me leave her behind.

And then we have this small wall plaque. He's kinda malformed and the toes are just odd... Over detailed toes and absolutely no hands had him staying on the shelf, but the sentiment is timeless!

How has your thrifting been going this year?

A unicorn I regret not buying...

I saw this two weeks ago. It was so huge, so striking, so much something that I didn't need...

But when you get closer, and look at it more closely...

And think about that it's wood-backed fabric...

The thistles are so lovely and vibrant...

The unicorn so delicate and majestic...

It still brings me back to the question of what the hell would I have done with it?!

Things I didn't buy

I love books. I really do. These end tables wanted me to take them home very badly. But I have no room for them. Even with a storage unit, my husband will open it up and ask me where things came from.....

But they were neat. Also neat was this silver serving piece. I love how big it is.

I actually carried it around for ten minutes or so, but put it back down. I have a party coming up, but nothing I'm making for it would go on a little tray, okay, it was really pretty big. But it won't work for me.

But oh! It spins too!

Wows....

I really love the shape of these plate and cup sets. If I had a house, they would definitely be mine! Especially for $2 each. But I have no place for them now. Or even decor ideas at the moment. I am sure I will think of a reason I need them later. But I can't think of it now.

I love Pyrex, but i'm not a really big collector. I like Corelle dish-ware mostly. If I was able to entertain more, I certainly would have picked up these 3 Pyrex pitcher/coffee pots. I especially like the middle one. I would love to hold a brunch and have a coffee bar... But I'm not going to. So I left them there for someone else who will really be able to use them.

And hold the phone! Look at the size of this lamp! And a velvet shade? I wish I had a swanky bachelor pad to stick this in. There was another regular at the Goodwill at the time I saw this and he took it home with him.

Another Oh God! Moment

Waaay back in March, I blogged about this picture I didn't buy. It was pretty cool, and I have been using the picture I took of it as a cell phone screen saver. I have been happy with it. Every once in awhile I think about how awesome it was and get sad I didn't just get it. It was only five bucks after all.

Now I am more than sad.

This is the one I saw.
Twentieth Century Interiors

This is the same series. But brighter. She has some really cool stuff by the way.

But I may cry over leaving it at the store.

Piggies and Bobbies

So I found these cute little green guys. I don't know what they do. Their hats are open, like they may be candle holders. The owl is carved from one piece of stone. There is a smaller owl carved inside. People are geniuses! And my piggybank.

My poor piggy-banks paint is rubbing off. But I have been informed that my mother in law loves it. Because she had the same one when she was a kid. So there may be a present in it for her.

And I am sending the little bobby whistle to my friend in London. She'll probably have a lot of fun with it.

And do you think I should have bought this jellyfish?

Vintage, taken home and left behind

I love this purse. It actually holds a surprising amount of stuff. I threw a book, a magazine a small notebook and two makeup bags in it yesterday. And it all fit. It started to look overstuffed when I added a bagel and my sunglasses case... but oh well. If there was only a way to attach a longer handle, I might just use it all the time.

And man oh man did I have a hard time leaving this set behind.

But I have no need of more dishes.

Even if is had almost everything. Like the butter dish, sugar bowl and creamer...all eight plates... but only 4 mugs.

And I adore Old Town Blue!

Secretary

I love a good secretary with a hutch. This one is a nice shape and in very good condition. There is no glass, but I prefer it that way.

Now I have no need of this. I knew I wasn't going to buy it. But I really wanted a picture of it anyway. To just remember this moment. It's something I would like to have someday. Just not now. What I really hoped to convey was the absolutely crazy color.

I hoped that this picture would really bring it home, but you still can't tell. It was mustard colored. Like a dijon color. And if that wasn't enough, it's marbleized. From the way it's on the whole thing, I think the paint is original.

Will not be buying

But wow! How often do you see something THIS interesting?

$650 makes it a bit too much for any kind of anything. But I would love to see this as something you could rent for some kind of event. Can't you just see this as a center piece in some kind of staged room? A themed party, or just a bachelor pad?

I admit, I am the proud owner of a red velvet living room sofa. So my tastes may be a bit suspect. But I like it, and I wish I had the room to do something with it, but only for $100 or less. I'm crazy, but not that crazy.

Moo to You!

I don't know if you can see in this picture, but there was a repaired fracture running all down his right ear. If it weren't for that, I think he might have had a place in my kitchen. Or in the hall, to hold my scarves.

I wonder if I could mount him inside my closet. He would be quite a surprise for my husband when I ask him to go in there and grab my hat!

Maybe I'll go back....

Is it me you're looking for?

I really don't know what this is for. It's a dish, shaped like a phone. Am I supposed to put change in it? Is it for those little golf pencils? I don't know.

I didn't buy it. No, I held back. But it is interesting.

Regrets

This picture is a big regret for me. And I mean big. It was around 30-35 inches by 20some. It's just a light wood frame and the picture is all cloth. I really regret that I simply don't have the space to bring this home. But I am using this picture as my cell phone background. So I can keep it in mind anyway.

This is what I want in my kitchen! It is pretty much exactly what I want. All I'd have to do is take out the acoustic tile ceiling, rewire the fixtures, take all the wallpaper down, refinish the walls, change the counter tops, stain the cabinets and redo the floor.

Best not to open that can of worms.

This bowl is pressed glass. It felt cheap. But....I really liked it. I am trying to be strong. It might still be there if I went back today. No. I'll be strong.

What is that and why didn't I buy it.

That is a steroscope. Go ahead and look it up. They are very cool. But this one was fifty bucks, only in fair condition and didn't come with any slides.

So I may be upset sometime later when I find a box of slides, but not today.

Something I should have bought

That is a picture of what I should have bought today. It's a bit beat up. The drawers need some repair work to put them back on track, maybe some new knobs and a lot of furniture polish.

It is only the size of a bedside table, so it should have been a no-brainer to pick up. But my husband forbade me to buy more furniture. And he refrained from picking up a bench the other day. He was out and decided to go to a nearby thrift store for the heck of it.

He went by himself. Because he was nearby one.

I never thought I would see the day. But I am so proud.

But I think he should have bought the bench. And I think I should have bought this sewing chest. Isn't it pretty?

Sometimes I Just Buy Books

Sometimes the best things I find are readable. Sometimes nothing I find is any good. Sometimes, but not often, I walk out without anything.

Today, I got books. But...

My goodness. This desk started calling to me. I can't believe I left it behind. I want this desk sooo bad that it was painful to walk out without it.

I can't afford more furniture. I don't have anywhere to put new furniture. But I really want it. Solid construction. All working drawers, all the knobs. Would this work for a hall table? I have a vestibule that needs something in it. I could make it my potting table.

But my husband would kill me for buying it. Because we're poor. And even a $30 table is still a $30 table I don't really need.

So today I just bought books.

Big Red Head

Why yes. That is a big red head.

I'm not sure if I should have bought this, but I could not think of a good reason. What should I have told my husband when he asked why I needed a big red head? I can't even think of where it would go. I think I like it so much because I really miss the blue glass Pier One head I stupidly let my mother sell at a yard sale when I was 16. I remember that it looked really awesome with a hat stuck on it. But 15bucks is a bit much for a head. Even if it is red.

And why am I seeing so many Corelle tumblers lately? AHHHH! Must continue to resist!

I almost cried

As I was making my way down the highway this afternoon I spied something on the side of the road.

I am always on the lookout for things that people throw out. But this was not thrown out. It may well have been thrown, and it surely was out, but this was a highway, not a curb.

As I got closer, my heart started beating a little faster. Was that- was that velvet? Yellow velvet? That would match my red velvet sofa with yellow velvet pillows? OMG, was that a freaking yellow velvet wing-back chair on the side of the road?!

Yes. Yes it was. And I have a four door sedan. And no bungee cords. I almost cried when I had to drive on by.

It was lying on it's face with it's feet in the air, but I imagine it would have looked a bit like this.
