pretty bowls and snoopy

EEEEE! Blue Pyrex! I really like this color. It goes well with my kitchen. I have red walls and a blue counter-top. (I rent, can't change much) But they go so nice with my counters. And it's a surprisingly workable combination of colors. I wouldn't have put it together for myself, but it's not bad.

With cookie season fast approaching, I can always use another bowl. I like to work in really big batches and always have something cooking. So if I have just finished the chocolate chip cookies, I try and have a bowl of oatmeal cookie batter ready to go. I find all the cookies that cook at the same temp and prepare them all at once so I only have to preheat the oven once.

The olive container is for my mom. It matches the colors of the store very well.

The other guys don't have to match anything. The owl is a bit smaller version of a bookend I already have. But who doesn't need more owls? And the Snoopy!

So cute. I love Snoopy to death. I grew up reading the comic books. I always love the baseball games. They really made it look fun. Since I just can't stand real baseball...I have a Snoopy! I think I'll put a santa hat on him for the holiday season.

Mid Century Candle Holders, Pyrex and Turkeys

I took a few days off from thrifting. I have been fighting a cold for a couple weeks. I decided to spend a couple days in bed and just get it over with. I took Thursday and Friday off and slept most of Saturday as well. I still feel a little achy, but I am 90% better. Which is great, because I couldn't stay away from the thrifts today!

I love candle holders. These taper holders are really cool. They look mid-century to me, but I have no idea. I think that they are going to look great with some garland and bells wrapped around them for Christmas.

And these awesome turkeys! They are all over a really cute apron. I have lots of things to make for Thanksgiving, so this will probably get a bunch of use this year!

And this is my most favorite find. The color does not go with my kitchen. At all. Not even close. But I really love it. It seems to be one of those holiday patterns, so I don't think there is any more to it. But I think it's my favorite pattern of all time.

Happy to be better. Wouldn't want to have missed that bowl!

I left these behind

I left these all behind me today. I wanted them. But I only have a little apartment and it's already full of crap. So I took some pictures to remind me of what I passed up.

I have been seeing many posts relating to cup and platter sets like these lately. One woman posted pictures of a luncheon she hosted. She used some nice clear cut glass ones to serve salad and a cup of soup. But I don't host luncheons. I barely go to the trouble to put salad on a plate when I eat it. I usually open the bag and fold down the edges and stir dressing right in. It's easy to take to work that way.

But these Pyrex had to stay at the store for the same reason. I just won't use them. I might use the casserole, but not the cinderella dish. But then the casserole doesn't have a lid. So what good is that? I have the same cinderella dish in Crazy Daisy. I haven't used it once in six months. I should probably sell it.

But then I wouldn't have it anymore....

The Caged Bird

The caged bird would be singing if he had that cage to live in! It's so tiny and cute. The pyrex I really did not need, but I do love that size. It's perfect for cereal and all kinds of left overs. This is my fourth of this size.

The mini dishes are very sweet and very Japanese. I'm thinking of turning them into pendants. They would make unusual statement pieces.

The lighter needs some minor repair and a fill up. I always wanted to have a table top lighter. Even if this one seems to be maybe missing a cap.

Namaste!

I am about to make cookies. I need to whisk eggs into soft peaks and fold them into my chocolate sauce....

Oh dear. Now I'm drooling on my keyboard. That is never good.

My pollyanna this year is a friend who loves yoga. And whimsy. So I am making her a yoga partner. One of these guys is destined to be Elizabeth's friend. I over-ordered because I can't find them at my local craft stores anymore. Seems that no one wants to be a maker of dolls anymore.

Spring in Winter

Of all the things I don't need any more of, of all the things I could do without....more pyrex is certainly first on the list.

Oh spring garden green! You're sweet little daisy shapes have driven me crazy to think that I need you!

I suppose that I could always sell you if I can't use you. I couldn't pass up a whole set. I passed up an entire 10place setting set of Old Town Blue in favor of this. It hurt. But I did it.

Cream and Sugar anyone?

I love Corelle as you know. Butterfly Gold in specific. I have a sugar bowl in spring garden green already, but I couldn't break up this set. I never see the oil and vinegar bottles! As my parent's have an oil and vinegar shop now, I thought they would be perfect for displaying behind the register. Although, I may just keep these for myself.

I love glass! You can do so much with it. Press it in to shapes, blow it and make it hollow, spin it, fuse it, carve it...and make really cool bowls with it.

Yes, I have a problem. I know. One of many. But this bowl is awesome. And the hilarity is that it matches my counters perfectly.
It actually is blue. One of those bowls with such a delicate tint. It probably isn't high quality or anything because the seams where it was all pressed together are so prominent. But I think it's pretty.

Will Power

I was not going to go to the thrift store today. I wasn't! I wasn't even going to go this week. I don't need anything, I can't afford anything.

So there I go driving around town. I was going to price some books and get a nice iced coffee from crazybucks while I was out. That was all! How did I end up with all this stuff?!

I tell myself that I'm glad I went, because I could have missed these cool things... but if I hadn't gone, I never would have known about them in the first place. Circular logic makes my head hurt.

But I am glad. The stuff is cool.

The recipe box and latching tin canisters are going in my kitchen, the curtains will probably go in the living room, but I need to find a nice window scarf to go on top of them first. The pierced tin will get framed and stuck in the kitchen too. The bowl is Pyrex, but it's a perfect size for baked crab or taco dip.

My parents are opening up a store, so the grape things are for them. The earthen-ware jar is all mine though. And the salt and pepper shakers. I saw someone on Etsy turn them into wire picture holders. If I succeed, I'll post them. The purple blob is a pretty blown glass flower...not just a purple blob. I promise.
